Make a difference and help keep people safe on our roadsTe Whiwhinga mahi | The opportunityIn this role you will have the opportunity to really make a difference and help keep people safe on our roads, working within our Safer Commercial Transport Team.
You will be responsible for ensuring that we operate and apply a safe system approach to road safety. On a daily basis, you will use a range of tools to ensure that transport service licence holders are operating safely, and we hold people and organizations to account where they are not doing so.
You will exercise statutory interventions and other regulatory activities as necessary. You will work as part of a multi-disciplinary team that is responsible for conducting investigations into non-compliance within the commercial transport sector.
You will work alongside peers, management, and external stakeholders to ensure that risks are identified and dealt with to achieve optimum results.
You will lead moderate to complex investigations into areas where non-compliance and safety issues may be occurring. This role will involve some travel across the Central North Island.

Experience in modern investigative techniques, interviewing, auditing including the use of multiple IT systemsExperience in supporting your team through the investigation processProven analytical skills and experience working with ambiguous informationExperience managing risk, sensitive issues, and confidentiality in a regulatory enforcement environment would be idealAbility to analyze data to identify areas of likely non-complianceExperience in writing well-reasoned, articulate reports that reach an objective conclusionProven success in building and maintaining effective relationshipsStrong critical thinking and problem-solving skillsAbility to understand and apply legislation, policy, and other technical information in an operational contextResilienceClean Full Class 1 Drivers licenceTransport sector experience would be advantageous, but is not essentialKo wai matou | About usAs the lead regulator for land transport, our purpose is to ensure that the system is safe, efficient, effective, and operates in the public interest.

You will demonstrate knowledge of, or a willingness to gain an understanding of Te Ao Maori and promote tikanga and Te Reo Maori.
You will also have knowledge of, or a willingness to gain an appreciation of te Tiriti o Waitangi (the Treaty of Waitangi) as it applies in the public sector.
