Interested in expanding your existing coaching and developmental skills in the application of intelligence and analysis?We're looking for a Senior Customs Officer - Grade 1 for our Strategic Intelligence team. Customs' strategic analysts are responsible for developing intelligence insights looking to the medium and long term, with a strong focus on products to inform senior management decision-makers and stakeholders across the public sector.About this role…Delivering intelligence and intelligence assessments that support operational and organisational decision-makers. The position also assists the Supervising Customs Officer (SupCO) to achieve team deliverables and strategic objectives and will work alongside a high performing team in strategic analysis.You will need to establish and maintain great working relationships with relevant internal and external stakeholders as well as international agency partners and participate in all-of-government work-streams and strategies. Working alongside key users of strategic intelligence you'll determine their requirements and provide advice. As part of this role, you will also provide intelligence briefings and reports that are of a high standard.The salary range for this role is $67,008 - $83,874 with the mid-point being $74,921. This role works standard hours, Monday to Friday.About you…To be successful in this role, ideally you will hold a tertiary qualification in international relations, strategic studies, international security, or demonstrated equivalent intellectual capability with an interest in and awareness of global political issues and current affairs. You must have experience in accurate report writing and previous analytical experience, preferably in the field of intelligence.You will be able to demonstrate the following:Experience in strategic thinking and providing advice to decision makers in the area of intelligenceAn enquiring mind, with excellent analytical skillsStrong written communications skills particularly in conveying messages in a variety of ways (i.e. not just text - also info-graphics, charts, diagrams, models etc.)Good understanding of border, enforcement, or intelligence operations within governmentExcellent interpersonal skills to be able to relate well to internal and external stakeholdersEffective coaching and mentoring skills to ensure the team have the appropriate skills to achieve effective resultsWorking at CustomsOur people get on-the-job training, formal courses and leadership programmes, and the chance to move between diverse roles. In order to obtain this clearance you need to be:a New Zealand Citizen or New Zealand Permanent Resident, whoresides in NZ at time of application, andhas resided continuously in New Zealand for the last 10 years orhas been absent from New Zealand for periods of six or more months within the past 10 years, in one or more of the following countries: Australia, Canada, UK, USA.You must have a background history that is verifiable and can be assessed as appropriate by the New Zealand Security Intelligence Service towards a recommendation of suitability for security clearance at a higher level. Already having Top Secret clearance is a benefit, but not a requirement.Due to the nature of Customs work you must have a clear Police record. Successful applicants are also required to pass a medical assessment and drug test and must hold a full NZ Drivers' licence.Please apply online.
