We are seeking a talented and experienced hotel manager to oversee operations and ensure exceptional guest experiences at our newest Wellington property - Tryp by Wyndham Wellington.
Tryp Wellington is owned and operated by Safari Hotels - a New Zealand hotel operator with 8 existing hotels in Queenstown, Christchurch, Wellington and Auckland. We have an exciting pipeline of new hotels and projects as well as expansion ambitions throughout NZ and Australia in 2025 and beyond.
This is your opportunity to be part of our executive team - as the Hotel Manager for our 4.5 star Tryp Wellington (the first Tryp branded hotel in NZ!).
About Tryp Wellington
Tryp Wellington is a modern, luxurious hotel with a Chicago theme - dedicated to ensuring guests enjoy a comfortable and memorable stay. Tryp is a Wyndham Hotel Group brand, with 9000 properties worldwide!
Our 4.5 star property has 88 guest rooms including a monster 350 sqm penthouse apartment, popular for top end luxury guests and events / corporate hire.
Amenities include a gym, breakfast & lolly bar, F&B offering, alcohol / bar sales, and happy hour for guests daily.
The property is now 2 years old so has a well established client base and could now be yours to take to the next level!
Hotel Manager Role
The successful applicant will need to demonstrate that they have had responsibility for and have successfully carried out the following key tasks and responsibilities:
Experience in a similar role of a limited or full-service property.
Executes business plans designed to maximize property customer satisfaction, profitability, and market share; ensures that property business plans and employees are aligned with business strategies.
Work closely with the Sales and Marketing team to develop revenue generating strategies for the property.
A high level of effective communication with key stakeholders & executives.
Foster relationships with local businesses, industry organisations and community stakeholders to promote the hotel.
A strong understanding of hotel finances, P&L statements and the ability to react with impactful strategies.
You must be adept at problem-solving, as issues can arise at any time in a hotel. Whether it's a double booking, a room maintenance problem, or a guest concern.
Leading, developing and inspiring the team to create a great team culture and exceptional guest experiences.
Handle escalated guest complaints and resolve them to the satisfaction of the guest whenever possible. Maintaining a high level of guest satisfaction is a key goal.
Regular reporting to management, financial planning.
Hotel revenue and rates management experience is highly preferred.
Grow Your Career
Tryp Wellington is 88 rooms but we have big plans for the Lower North Island of NZ. Tryp Palmerston North starts construction in early 2025 and is set to open mid-2026 - we anticipate that this role will evolve to include the management of this hotel once it opens. Further potential for the expansion of the scope of this role lies with the executive team and will be considered based on the successful candidates experience and skills.
The starting salary range for management of Tryp Wellington is $85k - $110k depending on experience and skills. The salary package will evolve as the scope of the role evolves in time.
Requirements
Previous knowledge of Opera Cloud, in particular rates and revenue management tools and functions within - required.
Previous experience managing a full housekeeping and front desk team - required.
Leadership experience and a proven track record of success - required.
Understanding of Lighthouse, Xero, RevIQ, Google Workspace, are all highly preferred.
Hold a Liquor Control Qualification & Managers Certificate - preferred.
Previous experience in food handling / safety - preferred.
