About the role As the HSQE Manager, you will oversee and drive the continuous improvement of our health, safety, quality, and environmental management systems, ensuring we meet both legal and best-practice standards. You will collaborate closely with project teams, senior leadership, and external stakeholders to ensure our operations align with regulatory requirements and industry best practices, while also advancing our commitment to sustainability and operational excellence.
Your role will require a balance of strategic leadership and operational focus, with responsibilities ranging from overseeing regulatory compliance, leading audits, and managing risk to promoting sustainability initiatives and employee wellbeing programs, and presenting reports to board. You will also be a key figure in developing our HSQE culture and ensuring the successful execution of our strategic goals.
Health & Safety Management Lead the development and continuous improvement of the Health and Safety Management System (HSMS), ensuring compliance with ISO 45001 and the Health and Safety at Work Act 2015. Oversee incident reporting, hazard assessments, and risk management across the business. Quality Management Develop and implement the Quality Management System (QMS), driving continuous improvement and ensuring ISO 9001 compliance. Lead internal audits and quality reporting, ensuring projects meet client specifications and high standards. Environmental & Sustainability Leadership Develop and improve the Environmental Management System (EMS), aligning with ISO 14001 and driving sustainability initiatives like reducing emissions and waste. Promote sustainable practices across operations and client projects, contributing to Kirk Roberts' sustainability goals. Strategic Risk Management Implement and use ISO 31000-based risk management principles to assess and mitigate business risks, ensuring alignment with company objectives. Training & Culture Deliver tailored health, safety, quality, and environmental training to staff, and foster a positive safety culture across the business. Oversee emergency preparedness, including crisis management plans and safety drills. About you Relevant Bachelors' Degree or Tertiary qualification in Health & Safety, Quality Management, Environmental Science, or a related field. Relevant certifications (NZISM, HASANZ, NEBOSH) are advantageous 10+ years in an HSQE or similar role within a consultancy or similar environment, preferably within engineering, professional services, or construction industries. Practical experience and success in developing, operating, and improving HSQ and Environmental Management Systems, with technical knowledge of legislative, regulatory and codes of practice in HSQ, and best practices in sustainability Proven ability to lead, inspire, and influence teams to foster a culture of safety and continuous improvement. Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to engage with a wide range of stakeholders, including senior leadership, clients, and regulatory bodies. Strong analytical skills and the ability to develop innovative solutions to address health, safety, quality, and environmental challenges. A passion for sustainability and experience in integrating environmental practices into business operations. Enjoy working in a team environment and communicating with a wide range of people.
