About the role As the Health & Safety Officer at Bostik New Zealand, you will play a crucial role in ensuring the safety and well-being of our employees at our Lower Hutt Wellington facility.
In this full-time position, you will be responsible for developing, implementing and maintaining health and safety policies and procedures that align with industry best practices and regulatory requirements.
What you'll be doing Policy Development: Develop, review, and implement safety policies in line with corporate guidelines and regulatory requirements.
Training Programs: Design and facilitate training for managers and employees on work site safety practices, fire prevention, and proper handling of chemicals and safety equipment.
Management Systems: Oversee the implementation of health, safety, security, and environmental management systems across all sites, promoting ongoing development.
Standards and Controls: Set and enforce health, safety, and environmental standards for all locations, ensuring a consistent approach to safety management.
Legislative Knowledge: Stay updated on relevant health, safety, and environmental legislation, informing management and staff of any changes.
Safety Equipment Procurement: Provide guidance on purchasing safety equipment and personal protective equipment (PPE).
Community Engagement: Represent Bostik in community or industry safety groups and programs to promote best practices.
Reporting: Ensure compliance with health, safety, and environmental regulations, submitting all required internal and external reports.
Global Integration: Integrate global health and safety management practices and implement effective systems and processes.
Risk Management: Develop, implement, and monitor risk and safety management plans tailored for each site, including behavioral safety programs.
Accident Investigation: Coordinate investigations of accidents and injuries, working closely with plant managers and preparing necessary documentation for legal and insurance matters.
Emergency Response: Manage emergency response team activities and coordinate safety committee operations to enhance safety procedures and guidelines.
Inspections and Audits: Conduct regular inspections and audits of Bostik facilities to identify and mitigate potential hazards.
Accident Reporting: Compile and submit required accident reports to regulatory agencies and analyze accident statistics to identify root causes.
What we're looking for Proven experience as a Health & Safety Officer or a similar role in the construction or manufacturing industryThorough knowledge of health and safety legislation, regulations and best practicesExcellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to effectively engage with employees at all levelsStrong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to identify and implement sustainable solutionsProficient in the use of health and safety management software and toolsRelevant tertiary qualifications in Occupational Health and Safety or a related fieldMinimum 3-5 years HSE or relevant fieldBackground in manufacturing/chemicals or like industry preferred A formal OHS certification is strongly preferred:Completed Certificate in Work Health and Safety.Additional certifications (e.g., First Aid Certificate, Construction Industry Induction Card) What we offer At Bostik New Zealand, we are committed to providing our employees with a supportive and rewarding work environment.
