Napier City Council is seeking a talented Health & Safety Advisor to champion Health, Safety, and Wellbeing across our organisation.In this pivotal role, you'll foster strong, collaborative relationships with teams across the council and our external partners, driving results and ensuring that health and safety are deeply embedded in our culture. You will work closely with our leaders to integrate safety into every aspect of our operations, providing expert guidance to maintain compliance with the Health and Safety at Work Act 2015 and other relevant regulations.As our Health & Safety Advisor your key responsibilities will include:Ensure NCC complies with the Health and Safety at Work Act 2015 and its amendments.Make sure all SOPs and SWMS follow NCC's specific format, are included in staff training, and are regularly reviewed.Support the Health and Safety Operations Manager with the NCC Safety Audit system and engage key stakeholders.Provide timely health and safety advice and best practices in a collaborative manner.Actively participate in NCC Health and Safety committee meetings, support HS representatives, and ensure they feel valued and empowered.Ensure all staff understand their risks and are involved in hazard and risk processes.Manage the SiteWise HS Pre-Qualification system and build relationships with suppliers to ensure they comply with NCC HS procedures and legislation.Conduct and review risk assessments regularly.Facilitate the use and training of the hazard/risk register, ensuring it's accessible and actively used by all staff.Address and resolve all hazards and compliance issues.Advise the Health and Safety Operations Manager on necessary training programs for the committee and people leaders.About You:At least 3-5 years' experience as a health and safety Partner or Partner in a local or central government environment, preferred.Computer literate, including intermediate knowledge of Microsoft Office applications.Excellent written and oral communication skills.Strong relationship skills with the ability to relate to a wide range of people.Ability to understand and apply legislation of the Health and Safety at Work Act 2015.Ability to work in a complex work environment, deal with ambiguity and across functions of Council.A solution-focused, proactive approach to identifying and solving problems.This permanent full-time position is Monday to Friday (40 hours per week), and you will be based at our Central Post Office in Napier.We will be interviewing applications as we receive them and may close the role when we have found the right person.Salary Range: $87k- $100k dependent on experience.
