Health and Safety Advisor | Kaitohutohu Hauora-Haumaru

Te Papa have created a new role and are looking for a hands-on self-motivated Health and Safety Advisor. The successful applicant will play a key role in bringing our vision of Safety Always to life by working with Te Papa managers and kaimahi with the implementation of our health and safety management system in support of our strategy to put health, safety and wellbeing at the heart of all we do and the decisions we make.
Key Responsibilities
Support the Manager Health and Safety with the implementation of the health and safety management system;
Assist with developing wellbeing initiatives for Te Papa kaimahi;
Coach Te Papa leaders in their understanding and effectiveness in managing risks to health and safety in order to drive safety performance improvements;
Develop and maintain a training programme to increase manager and kaimahi understanding of health and safety legislation, and their obligations and core principles of Safety Always.

Qualifications and Experience
To be successful in this role you will have:
A relevant tertiary qualification or equivalent relevant work experience, and be an active member of HASANZ, NZISM or similar;
2-3 years' working experience as a Health & Safety Advisor in an operational environment;
Knowledge of wellness concepts in the work environment;
Experience in risk assessments and the development and monitoring of risk controls;
A working and in-depth knowledge and understanding of health and safety legislation;
Knowledge of what good health and safety practices and performance looks like;
A good working knowledge of health and safety management systems;
Ability to work autonomously and collaboratively in a team environment;
Excellent organisational skills;
Excellent communication skills including verbal, written, and listening;
Ability to establish, build and maintain great relationships both internally and externally, establishing trust and credibility;
Strong computer skills particularly with the Microsoft Office suite.
Salary
The starting salary for this position will be between $72,000 to $90,000 pa with further room for progression through the band. Offers will be made within the range to reflect the skills and experience offered by the candidate and those required of the role, and internal relativities with other employees.
