Head Winemaker

Full Time URLAR Wairarapa, New Zealand, Wellington/Wairarapa Winemaker Gladstone, Wairarapa, New Zealand Company: URLAR, Gladstone Type: Permanent Winemaker - Gladstone Sub-Region, Wairarapa, New Zealand We are seeking a Winemaker for our growing business.
This role is multi-faceted and will be a key member of the URLAR team.
This role will commence late-September 2024, or by arrangement.
The position is a physically-active role and requires a strong balance of hands-on and technical skills in our brand-new state-of-the-art winery.
Duties include but are not limited to: Assist in supervising all day-to-day cellar operations Supervise and train vintage staff Assist with laboratory analysis Review and implementation of SOP Oversee safety training and management of compliance issues to provide a safe workplace Maintain winery equipment and winemaking facilities Finish wines for bottling Reporting and audit to a regulatory body Occasional hosting at our onsite tasting room and engaging with our customers during winemaker dinners, festivals etc.
when required Desired skills and experience: Degree in Oenology or equivalent Experience with both the practical and technical aspects of the winemaking process, both fermentation and finishing wines Confident in team communication and leadership skills Strong maths/lab skills and good engineering/mechanical knowledge Experience in a premium organic/non-organic winemaking environment focused on pinot noir Strong organizational, teambuilding and problem-solving skills, with strong attention to detail Great communication skills, both written and spoken Great sense of humour and positive thinking Ability to work flexible hours Commitment to the Wairarapa region #J-18808-Ljbffr
