About the Student Volunteer Army The Student Volunteer Army Foundation (CC47611) is a registered charitable trust of New Zealand incorporated under the Charities Act 2005. Born out of a student-led clean-up operation after the 2010 Christchurch earthquake, the Student Volunteer Army (SVA) is now a network of tens of thousands of volunteers - driven by a desire to help their communities and empowered to make tangible differences in the world every day. Our programmes at primary, secondary and tertiary levels of education feed into this kaupapa: we seek to empower youth through volunteering; cultivate a culture of service that will last across generations; and build resilient communities that are connected and ready to respond when crisis hits.
As the Head of Fundraising, you will play a pivotal role in leading and coordinating efforts to build and strengthen our fundraising and partnership programmes, enhancing impact and engagement. You will oversee our existing programmes, including grants and corporate fundraising, and be responsible for developing and executing new initiatives to further diversify our funding streams, such as major donor and legacy fundraising. You will lead the development, acquisition and stewardship of new partners and funders, owning our relationships and representing the organisation at events. This role requires strong fundraising and relationship management experience and exceptional communication skills. Some wider team support may be required, particularly during times of crisis. National travel may be required for this role.
Qualifications & experience Credible, enthusiastic, inspirational fundraiser, with ideally a minimum of 4 years' experience in fundraising with a proven track record of successful fundraising. A solid grasp of the subject matter, along with a related tertiary qualification, like a degree or certificate, or equivalent expertise.Experience in a busy work environment which demonstrates the ability to manage multiple functions/tasks to deadlines.Sound commercial acumen and ability to leverage data. Experience in a strategic role developing fundraising and stakeholder strategies and plans which can be successfully operationalised. Ability to work closely and effectively with colleagues and stakeholders. Familiarity with CRM software like Salesforce or HubSpot.Strong project management and planning skills and experience.Exceptional communication and people skills - you'll prove yourself a wordsmith, a good listener and a good talker and have the ability to connect to a wide-range of people.A commitment to developing your cultural capability and capacity in te ao Maori.Experience in a not-for-profit or charity organisation. Tasks & responsibilities Fundraising: Develop and implement fundraising strategies, leveraging data and creating plans to grow income through bequests, major donors, and other initiatives.Individual Giving: Lead and evaluate the individual giving program, ensuring seamless donor journeys and identifying new engagement opportunities.Grants: Manage the full grants cycle, from research to applications, reporting, and maintaining funder relationships.Partnerships: Develop corporate partnerships and engage sponsors, ensuring mutually beneficial relationships.Storytelling: Collaborate with the Programmes team to gather impactful stories to support fundraising and enhance the case for support.Crisis Response: Pursue funding for crisis response efforts and coordinate corporate support, leading donation strategies during crises.Leadership: Mentor and manage team members, contribute to SVA's strategic direction, and ensure successful project delivery.
