Details of the offer

Add expected salary to your profile for insights. Dark Sky Project is on the lookout for an exceptional Guiding Team Leader. If you have a passion for astronomy, guiding, and delivering unforgettable customer experiences, this full-time, permanent role could be for you! About the Role: As the Guiding Team Leader, you'll oversee a team of up to 15 astronomy guides, ensuring they are trained, motivated, and ready to deliver world-class, culturally enriched experiences. Your leadership will be key in maintaining the highest standards of customer service, safety, and operational efficiency while sharing the wonder of the night sky and the cultural heritage of Kai Tahu with our manuhiri (visitors). Key Responsibilities: Lead and inspire the guiding team to deliver exceptional astronomy experiences, combining science, storytelling, and Kai Tahu culture. Recruit, train, and mentor guides, ensuring consistency in service quality and guest satisfaction. Work closely with the Operations Manager on scheduling, resource management, and optimising tours to meet customer demand. Drive continuous improvement based on customer feedback and support our commitment to sustainable tourism, including achieving carbon zero by 2040. Ensure health and safety standards are met, guiding team members through emergency procedures and promoting a culture of wellbeing. Foster a strong connection to Ngai Tahu values, tikanga (protocols), and te reo Maori within your team, encouraging cultural growth and confidence. What We're Looking For: At least 2 years of experience in a senior guiding role, preferably within the tourism industry. A proven ability to lead teams with a focus on delivering exceptional customer experiences. A passion for storytelling, astronomy, and New Zealand's natural and cultural heritage. Strong public speaking skills, with the ability to engage diverse audiences. Familiarity with Ngai Tahu values or a desire to learn and embrace our cultural aspirations. A tourism qualification is preferred, but a passion for continuous learning and development is essential. Why Join Us? At Ngai Tahu Tourism, we take pride in welcoming manuhiri (visitors) with manaakitanga (hospitality) and showcasing the beauty of our whenua (land) and the night sky. We offer competitive pay, opportunities for cultural and personal growth, and the chance to be part of a dynamic team contributing to the future of Ngai Tahu. You'll not only lead an incredible guiding team but also help us grow and protect the tribal putea (funds) for future generations - "Mo tatou, a, mo ka uri a muri ake nei" (for us and our children after us). Join us in this exciting leadership role and make a real impact, while working in one of the most beautiful places on Earth. #J-18808-Ljbffr
