The college is a special character state-integrated school providing co-educational schooling from Y0–6, and girls' day and boarding education from Y7–13. With a roll of 565 students, the family atmosphere of the college creates a sense of belonging and community engagement. Built on the foundations of the Presbyterian Church and operating since 1915, Columba retains links with the Presbyterian Church while welcoming students of other beliefs to enrich cultural diversity. Encouraging personal excellence in academia, sport, and culture, Columba prepares its students to contribute and succeed wherever their life path goes. We are seeking a guidance counsellor, passionate about making a positive difference for our students. Counselling in a school setting provides students with an opportunity to explore difficulties and concerns and empowers them to make informed decisions. This work aims to support the best possible educational and social outcomes for all students. Skills and competencies: Have the ability to embrace and represent the special character and traditions of the college Honour the principles and give practical effect to Te Tiriti o Waitangi Maintain professional membership and registration with the New Zealand Association of Counsellors (NZAC) or similar and comply with their Code of Ethics A minimum of two years' post qualification experience A minimum of 1 years' experience working with children and/or young people A mature and non-judgemental outlook Strong interpersonal skills Well-developed written and oral communication skills A keen sense of humour A warm and approachable manner that promotes empathic, strong, positive relationships with students, staff, and college whanau.
