You will be surrounded by national parks, beautiful beaches, and an abundance of outdoor activities.
Stretching from Punakaiki in the south to Karamea in the north, and inland as far as Springs Junction, the district is home to a population of just over 9,500, and the 8,574 square km's boasts two national parks, one forest park, and two heritage areas.
Reporting to a newly appointed Chief Executive, the Group Manager Infrastructure Services is accountable for operations, infrastructure planning, and capital projects delivery across key portfolios of Land Transport, Water Services, Solid Waste, and Property.
Leading 4 direct reports and a team of 20, the role will lead and influence the operational and strategic direction for Council infrastructure to provide value for money, fit for purpose asset performance, and service level outcomes for the Buller district communities.
The role is a key member of the senior team, contributing to the strategic leadership of the Council, working closely with elected members and key stakeholders in the community.
This role has a broad span of control with plenty of variety and challenge.
This role represents an excellent opportunity for you to demonstrate your strong leadership to grow best practice through rigorous processes, supporting the team culture and managing stakeholder and external agency relationships.
You will have the opportunity to: Lead the efficient and effective design, delivery, and maintenance of Land Transport network, Water Services, solid waste, and property infrastructure, delivering quality and cost-effective infrastructure capital projects, ensuring they are delivered consistent with business case, procurement strategy, and contracts for service.
Lead best practice project processes and management across Infrastructure Services.
Champion capability development, wellbeing, and leadership of your teams, building a collaborative culture and leading change.
About the Person: Successful candidates will have demonstrated leadership experience in Management, Commerce, Infrastructure Strategy/Planning, Construction Management, Project Management, or similar contexts.
You will: Possess the ability to inspire and lead a diverse team, fostering a collaborative and high-performing work environment.
Be known for collaborative leadership, with a strong team focus.
Have extensive experience in overseeing a wide range of programmes and projects, through effective processes and monitoring, achieving best outcomes for the community.
Have strengths in networking locally, regionally, and nationally with a wide range of stakeholders, working closely with government agencies.
Have demonstrated skill in risk assessment, design development, scheduling, cost estimating, technical specifications.
Have knowledge of asset management across diverse infrastructure.
Point to a successful track record in leading cultural change, with a strong focus on continuous improvement.
Have skills in managing risk, health and safety, and wellbeing.
Interact regularly and confidently with elected officials, providing informed advice and support.

About the Organisation: The Buller District Council is the territorial authority for the northern West Coast.
Council's goal is to promote the well-being of its local communities.
It has a wide range of responsibilities under the Local Government Act.

Their mission is to serve the residents of the Buller district, conscious of their needs, by providing facilities and services and creating an appropriate environment for progress and development; while preserving the distinctive natural environment, as well as the cultural and historical environments.
The Council consists of 11 elected members, the Mayor and 10 Councillors and an Iwi Representative from Ngati Waewae.
Council's role is to provide local leadership and facilitate the delivery of services and activities that promote community well-being throughout the Buller District.
Council provides leadership relating to issues that affect the community, through the management of the environment and promotion of the district's needs and aspirations.
It ensures that the district's infrastructural assets and associated resources are utilised and managed in a responsible way for the benefit of residents and ratepayers both today and in the future.
Council wants to make sure its region grows and develops in a way that keeps its values safe for future generations.
