Details of the offer

Are you looking for an interesting and challenging opportunity to work with the West Coast community to help manage conservation?

Permanent, full-time position based in Westport.

The salary range for this position is $60,314 to $75,603. Our vision: Nature is thriving in Aotearoa Te Oranga o te Ao Turoa. The Department of Conservation Te Papa Atawhai (DOC) serves to protect and restore nature spaces and species across Aotearoa.

Tangata whenua are inextricably linked to the whenua and te taiao, and we desire a future where whanau, hapu and iwi can thrive in their role as rangatira and kaitiaki.

This role is a mixture of both office and fieldwork and requires you to be effective in engaging with stakeholders and advocating for conservation across the Buller District. In this role, you will:

Deliver conservation education programs to a wide range of people including school groups.

Create and distribute information about the conservation work being delivered around the district.

Evaluate and provide input in relation to statutory land administration, RMA, and permission applications as required.

Assist the departments monitoring and compliance programme through visits to holders of permissions such as mining access arrangements and other concessions including grazing, tourism, and recreation.

Support other District priorities and team members when required.

This is an awesome opportunity for someone that is looking to get involved with community conservation work.

We are looking for an enthusiastic, self-motivated team member with excellent people skills to deliver on the Department's community work. If you have some of the following, we are keen to hear from you:

Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, including a proven ability to write accurate, clear, and concise reports.

A 'can do' attitude and proven excellent organisational skills, including the ability to balance competing demands, meet deadlines and have a problem-solving approach.

Experience working with and partnering with statutory authorities, community groups, iwi or business groups.

The ability to engage with organisations, community groups and private landowners effectively and positively.

Valid full drivers' licence.

Knowledge of the Buller district (desirable).

Even if you don't tick all the boxes but believe your skills and experience closely align, then we still encourage you to submit an application.

You will form an integral part of our energetic and hardworking community team, working alongside other operations staff including the heritage and visitor, biodiversity, and visitor centre team. Additionally, you'll occasionally work with contractors and stakeholders from various groups.

DOC places importance on developing a culture where everyone can participate, thrive, and grow. We're working towards being an organisation that is diverse, equitable and inclusive by default.

Apply online with a CV and cover letter that highlights your relevant skills, experience and motivation for joining Te Papa Atawhai. Please note, due to the high volume of applications, we are unable to accept direct or emailed applications and provide feedback to those not shortlisted.

If you require any accommodations or adjustments throughout the recruitment process, please do let us know. The salary range for this position is $60,314 to $75,603 with the starting salary of the successful applicant being based on their relevant skills and experience.

Eligibility to work in New Zealand is mandatory; this includes holding a valid work visa that covers the whole period of employment.

Due to high volumes, we are not engaging with recruitment agencies for this role. Applications close at 11:59pm on Sunday 8 September 2024.

For further enquiries, please feel free to contact Sean Judd, Supervisor at ******. Job reference: DOC / 1811222.
