The role
We are looking for just the right person for our Group Manager Community , which plays a key role in ensuring that Council is collaborative in thinking, planning, and acting strategically to enable the organisation to meet the current and future needs of the community.
Lead and support social development and resilience innovation.
Ensure Council's interests are represented in regional and sub-regional level for community development and resilience strategies.
Provide excellence in the technical support to community boards on matters of local interest via an effective team of Area Managers.
Act as the champion for the Sustainability and Resilience Committee and assist it to develop and maintain its work programme.
Lead the development and implementation of a District Partners strategy and action plan.
A robust "centre of excellence" is maintained for the customer service function.
External and Internal communications are well planned, strategic whilst agile to developing needs.
Other aspects of this role include supporting the development of and providing advice on genuine partnerships between local iwi and Council and ensuring Council and the community are ready to respond to Civil Defence emergency situations.
What are we looking for?
You will be an experienced senior leader with success working with diverse communities. You are driven to provide high quality leadership and management, displaying standards and behaviours that are reflective of Council values, leading by example.
A tertiary qualification in community development, social policy or related discipline.
At least 10 years business/economic/community resilience experience.
Demonstrated understanding and application of key local government legislation and statutory requirements.
Understanding of Treaty of Waitangi, Tikanga Maori, and its implications for community development.
A strong understanding of community-led development and local social issues.
Well-developed facilitation, advocacy, and lobbying skills.
