Jade Software has a new opportunity in Christchurch for a Graduate Systems Software Engineer, providing high-level technical expertise and consulting services for our Jade Platform product.
ABOUT THE ROLE
The role includes system design, development, maintenance, testing, and customer support. The Jade Platform has its own language, compiler, object-oriented database, IDE, and runtime. This team is one of very few in the country where you can work on such things professionally.
Most of our customers are long-standing and have built their core business on top of our product. As such, we have built close working relationships with them. However, we do not stand still; this new role will significantly contribute to our ongoing strategy to improve and evolve the Jade Platform, and you would be joining this exceptional team at an exciting time.
Key role areas include:
You will provide technical support to team members in the configuration, testing, and implementation of new/enhanced systems and other related advice, technical directions, and consultancy.
Actively contributing to product testing activities including building unit tests.
Technical collaboration with JADE development team and customers, through analyzing and specifying application system requirements for customer solutions.
Using skill and knowledge to diagnose technical issues, escalating more complex issues to a Senior Systems Software Engineer.
Contributing to the development and maintenance of the JADE object-oriented database and programming language.
Working with key stakeholders during the implementation and testing of developed solutions and/or products.
ABOUT YOU
What you will bring to Jade:
You should want to immerse yourself in a complex engineering role, supporting and developing a unique product. You will have excellent communication and interpersonal skills, along with good analytical and problem-solving skills and a passion for technology and software. You must be organized, have attention to detail, and an ability to self-manage and work within a close-knit team.
It is essential that you have:
Some experience in software development including a genuine interest in systems programming. You will have proven experience working in varied languages and have the ability to learn and adapt to various and new technologies.
Experience with C++ from a systems programming point of view alongside some experience in .Net and C#.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
A curious nature and be able to perform self-directed learning.
Some nice to haves but not essential:
A relevant IT tertiary qualification.
Previous experience in Object-Oriented Database development.
Experience maintaining systems through monitoring and correcting software defects.
A 'Lifetime of learning' approach is super important. The team has some of the most experienced and skilled system software engineers in the country – you will learn from the best (30+ years exp).
