This is a full-time summer contract from October 2024 to March 2025, with flexible dates for the right applicant. The role includes a break when the office closes over Christmas and the New Year, and there is potential to extend this contract into a permanent full-time role if it suits us both.About the McGuinness InstituteThe McGuinness Institute is a non-partisan think tank working towards a sustainable future for New Zealand. See mcguinnessinstitute.org for more about the Institute and to view some of our recent work.About the roleYou will be positive, highly organised, take initiative, and have effective problem-solving skills in design, print production, and social media. Strong creativity, attention to detail, and the ability to work constructively in a busy team environment are essential. Good verbal and written communication skills are also required.Education and experience in design, typography, and publication layout are essential. The ideal candidate will hold a design degree or have an equivalent combination of education and relevant work experience, with a demonstrated history of producing brochures, booklets, infographics, and various other print mediums.Responsibilities and skills required:PublicationsA working knowledge of Adobe Creative Suite, particularly InDesign, Illustrator, and Photoshop.Proficient in Office 365, particularly PowerPoint.Strong conceptual design and layout skills.Experience in print and digital design.Ability to multi-task and meet deadlines; capability of designing within existing brand guidelines/style guide.Responsible for organising and monitoring inventory levels of publications.Video and photographyKnowledge of digital cameras and editing.Responsible for filming and/or photographing all workshops and events.Working knowledge of Adobe Premiere Pro.Ability to edit, review, and upload all event footage.WebProficient in WordPress and able to set up new WordPress websites.Responsible for preparing artwork and editing content across all Institute's websites.Ensuring all websites are updated, links work, and are backed up.Manage the Institute's website domains and hosting services.Social mediaKnowledge of social media platforms: Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn, and Twitter.Administrative and other tasksAs we are a small team, the ability to work with others and deliver to tight deadlines is critical. Staff work well together, and you will need to help with administrative tasks as required to ensure the office runs smoothly. A basic understanding of IT and how technology/computers work is necessary, as is the ability to assist the team with events and other tasks.Closing date for this position is 5pm Monday 30 September 2024.
