Gore District Council is one of three local authorities in Southland and we look after the Gore District, which covers an area of 1250km² and is home to about 12,400 residents. Every day, our staff deliver a wide range of services to our customers to ensure our District is a safe, comfortable, and easy place to live.
We are seeking a governance super star to join our team in the newly created position of Governance and Corporate Support Manager. In this role you will lead the delivery of specialist and professional strategy, governance and democracy services to the Council. This includes:
Developing and managing governance and compliance processes, including maintaining policies and proceduresProviding advice and support on governance matters to the Council and its committees, and the Senior Leadership TeamEnsuring compliance with relevant legislation Overseeing the Council's electoral responsibilitiesLeading the Council's team of executive support staffAdditionally, you'll be overseeing a key project for the Council in the implementation of new governance management software for the Council. This will involve change management, developing processes, and providing staff and Councillors with coaching on how to use the system effectively.
You'll have relevant qualifications and hands-on experience in governance. You'll also have high levels of integrity and excellent skills in diplomacy, customer service, and communication. Experience in introducing new governance systems and/or processes would be advantageous.
This is a full-time position, based in Gore. Flexibility in working hours will be required as many Council meetings are held in the evening.
