About the role Due to an internal promotion, we have an opportunity for a Compliance Officer to join our monitoring and compliance team. Reporting to the Team Leader Monitoring and Compliance, the Compliance Officer will be responsible for ensuring compliance with areas such as animal control and freedom camping. This role will include some on-call work after business hours - this is on a rostered basis. Your responsibilities include (but are not limited to): Regularly patrol and educate assigned communities on the areas of animal control (mostly dog control), noise, and nuisance. Undertake investigations into complaints from the public to ascertain compliance with legislation. Present reports and evidence to council hearings and district court when required. Cultivate a professional and positive image for Southland District Council, acting in a proactive and customer-centric manner ensuring that any investigations are made using best practice principles. To be successful in this role you will: Have knowledge of the local government context and/or experience in a compliance or enforcement role. Have the ability to assess all aspects of a situation, potential consequences, and make sound decisions. Have excellent communication skills with the ability to educate a range of stakeholders in a collaborative manner. Possess high attention to detail and organisational skills with the ability to effectively plan ahead. A full NZ driver's licence is essential. What's in it for you?
