Geriatric Medicine Consultant Opportunity In Northern New Zealand

Based at Whangarei, New Zealand, this position for a Specialist Physician in Geriatric Medicine is part of a service which provides health care for Older People across Northland.
The region covers an area of 12,600 square kilometres with a population of 170,000.
Our team is looking for an enthusiastic and motivated Geriatrician to join our growing team of 5.5FTE SMOs.
We have been developing and expanding our service to meet the needs of the rapidly growing older population of Northland, aiming to provide better care for the frail elderly across both hospital and community settings.
This replacement role is based at Whangarei Hospital which is a 250-bed district hospital with all major specialties.
We have a 30-bed Assessment and Rehabilitation ward which also includes an 8-bed Acute Stroke Unit.
We also have 8-10 Acute Care of the Elderly beds (ACE) with a full multidisciplinary team and provide an ACE service in ED to rapidly assess, and if possible, prevent admission.
We provide outpatient clinics on five sites across Northland as well as inpatient orthogeriatric services, fracture liaison, and perioperative delirium services.
The service is well supported by community rehabilitation teams, a region-wide needs assessment service, and Gerontology nurse specialists.
Other areas of development include improving our interface with primary care and community services and further developing community-based rehabilitation.
Any subspecialty interests and expertise are very welcome and can be accommodated.
