Korero mo te turanga – About the role
We are seeking a general surgery Fellow to join our General Surgery Department for 12 months from January 2025. This role would suit a New Zealand or overseas candidate who wants to further their knowledge and career by doing Fellowship before taking up a consultant role in the future. This is a senior registrar level appointment with a specific focus on General and Breast surgery.
This role covers Senior Medical Officer (SMO) general surgical on-call responsibilities, requiring the ability to manage acute emergencies as well as options for elective general surgery lists. This Fellow appointment would suit someone who has recent general surgery experience and ideally is someone who has passed their final examinations and is looking to gain more experience.

You will be part of a dynamic and innovative department with a strong focus on ongoing quality improvement and positive relationships with clinical colleagues. Collaboration and a multi-disciplinary approach to patient care is integral to our service delivery here at Hutt. The General Surgery Department has had a Fellow in the past and this has proved to be a valuable asset and we wish to continue. The successful candidate will contribute to on-call SMO requirements as well as having service commitments (acute surgery, clinics, endoscopy).

We are looking for someone who:
Is able to work in collaboration with a multidisciplinary team
Has relevant experience and training and is able to be registered with the Medical Council of New Zealand
Is able to provide consistently high standards of medical care
