Dunedin Hospital One-year Fixed Term 0.8 FTE – Sabbatical Cover Salary: ASMS MECA 2022 (NZD 185,380 - 267,980) We are currently seeking a General Surgeon with FRACS to join an established team providing a mix of malignant and benign general surgery from January 2025. We are looking for an enthusiastic doctor to join our department to support our general surgery team and deliver effective and comprehensive patient care. This role will see you take your place in maintaining the existing acute and elective service and you may take the initiative in developing new services. Ideally, you will have a broad general surgery experience in gastrointestinal surgery. Breast Surgery and Vascular Surgery are provided by separate services.
There would be the opportunity for a weekly endoscopy list (mix of gastroscopy and colonoscopy) for the appropriately trained applicant. You would need to be credentialed for this by the Dept. of Gastroenterology and the Conjoint Committee for training in GI endoscopy.
You will be able to develop your sub-specialty interests while in Dunedin; however, we have a backlog of general surgery referrals (including minor Colorectal cases) with which you will need to assist. The on-call roster is a 1:9.5 frequency.
The applicant would be requested to co-convene and teach in the Dunedin School of Medicine Advanced Learning in Medicine 6 (Trainee-Intern) Trauma and Critical Care module. This is remunerated by Otago University at 0.2 FTE of the appropriate Senior Lecturer scale.
In addition, teaching of fourth-year medical students attached to your clinical team and of Surgical Registrars is an expected duty of the position.
