About the Role
An exciting opportunity has come up at Taranaki's best public regional art gallery - the Percy Thomson Gallery.
Percy Thomson Gallery is looking for an energetic and customer focused Gallery Director to oversee our daily operations and play a key role in the success of our dynamic exhibition program.
The scope of this role will extend from the responsibility for the vision and leadership of the Gallery and its retail shop, Percy's Place, to the management of its operations and staff, including volunteers, and accountability for its resources.
The position is full time, which will include some evenings and weekends and located at the Percy Thomson Gallery in Stratford. The salary for this position is dependent on the skills and experience of the candidate.
About You
You are an organised, creative professional with a passion for art and excellent customer service skills. Ideally, you have experience working in a gallery or museum environment and possess a keen eye for colour and detail, especially in exhibition installation. You qualifications will have a minimum of NCEA Level 2 in English and Mathematics, a tertiary qualification in Museum & Heritage Studies or Art History is preferred.
The Trust is looking for the next gallery leader who will demonstrate and have proven experience in:
effective management experience in the visual and art sector
the ability to create, promote and present major exhibitions
a community-based outlook, valuing local needs
self-motivation, flexibility and enthusiasm
good time management skills
practical experience in handling art works, and the preparation and hanging of exhibitions
good computer and graphic skills
essential skills in budgeting and marketing
public relations and communications experience

The Percy Thomson Gallery is Stratford's public art gallery. It was named to acknowledge the generous bequest of Percy Thomson, a former Mayor of Stratford.
The Gallery is a working gallery built to national standards and contains generous exhibition, work and storage areas. It maintains a strong reputation as a significant provincial public art gallery in Taranaki. The Gallery is centrally located in Stratford and is open seven days a week.
