Management (Information & Communication Technology) Timberlands Limited is a world leading forest management company with its main office located near the mountain bike mecca of the Whakarewarewa Forest in Rotorua.
Acting on behalf of the Kaingaroa Timberlands Partnership, Timberlands Limited manages over 200,000 ha of plantation forestry in the central North Island with a very operational focus.
However, Timberlands is different from other forestry companies in that we have a large R&D team looking to drive innovation and technology within our business.
Purpose of the Role: Reporting to the GM Strategy & Innovation, the successful candidate in this role will work closely with operational staff, geospatial specialists, data scientists, data engineers and research scientists to lead, maintain, improve, and develop the Timberlands GIS system and other related geospatial applications, helping us to achieve our goal of being the best and safest plantation forestry company in the world.
Key accountabilities include: Lead and mentor the six member Forest Information Team ensuring client expectations are met efficiently, timely and on budget.
Maintain, improve and develop the Timberlands GIS System and associated products to ensure best practice and efficient uptake by stakeholders across the business.
Oversee all geospatial and forest information data to ensure effective data management strategies and appropriate documentation are in place and maintained.
Support, promote and develop the use of GIS and stand record systems within Timberlands, as well as promoting the use of new GIS technologies within the business.
Develop, manage and contribute towards projects linked to the Timberlands strategic objectives.
Our ideal candidate will have: A Degree, diploma or certificate in GIS, Forestry, Computer Science, Spatial Sciences, Geography or similar.
A minimum of five year's experience in the forest industry working with GIS technologies and successfully leading a GIS or Geospatial team.
Strong knowledge of the ESRI suite of products, specifically ArcGIS Desktop, ArcGIS Pro, ArcGIS Enterprise, ArcGIS Server, SDE and mobile applications.
Experience with the Atlas suite of products, specifically GeoMaster, Harvest Manager and SilviQC.
Experience with Data Warehouses and relational database design and development.
Knowledge of programming languages such as Python and SQL.
Experience authoring Experience Builder apps, ESRI dashboards and other ESRI mobile data collection apps.
Ability to lead a team and build a cohesive, supportive, and capable working environment.
Strong analytical skills with the ability to troubleshoot and problem solve data, software or technical issues relating to the role.
Excellent project management and business analytical skills.
Excellent time management skills with the ability to plan, prioritise and manage multiple conflicting priorities.
Ability to collaborate within and across teams of different technical knowledge to support delivery and educate end users on data products.
Be a self-motivated team player with excellent written and verbal communication skills, a positive attitude, and an inquisitive approach to solving complex problems.
