Enphase is seeking a highly effective and driven Firmware Engineering Manager to join our high-performing team based at our Research and Development Center located in Middleton, Christchurch
You will be working in a team of engineers who are tasked to design, enhance and test new system components to maximise the effectiveness of our energy harvesting, energy storage and energy management product range.
About the role:
Lead the development and integration of firmware for system components within a growing ecosystem
Ensure all components meet strict industry standards and regulatory requirements
Design and implement reliable, high-performing firmware solutions
Develop and maintain communication protocols between system components
Collaborate with hardware and software teams to ensure seamless integration
Conduct code reviews and provide mentorship to junior engineers
Troubleshoot and resolve complex firmware issues
Optimize firmware for performance, memory usage, and power consumption
Develop and execute test plans to ensure firmware quality and reliability
Remain up-to-date with the latest industry trends and technologies in embedded systems
Document firmware design, development processes, and best practices
Manage project timelines and deliverables to ensure timely completion
Participate in system architecture design and contribute to technical roadmaps
Ensure security and robustness of firmware against potential threats
Foster a culture of continuous improvement and innovation within the team
What you bring:
Bachelor's or Master's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or a related field
12+ years of experience in firmware development for embedded systems.
Proven experience leading firmware projects and teams, including capturing and documenting requirements
Strong proficiency in C/C++ programming languages
In-depth knowledge of microcontrollers, microprocessors, and embedded operating systems
Experience with communication protocols including UART, SPI, I2C and CAN
Familiarity with hardware design and debugging tools (oscilloscopes, logic analysers, etc.)
Understanding of real-time operating systems (RTOS) and their application in embedded systems
Experience with version control systems (e.g., Git) and CI/CD pipelines
Strong problem-solving skills and ability to troubleshoot complex issues
Excellent documentation and communication skills
Ability to work collaboratively in a cross-functional team environment
Experience in developing high-reliability code and tests
What would make you stand out?
Proven performance in a similar role, in a Research and Development environment
Experience with power electronics systems
Experience with 32-bit ARM processors and 8-bit 8051 processors
Experience with UL1998, UL1741, IEEE1547 and other standards
Familiarity with automated test scripts/setups using Python
