The Boise Fire Department currently employs over 300 full-time personnel, operating 17 fire stations with specialized teams including a Hazardous Materials Team, ARFF Team, Dive Team, and a Technical Rescue Team. The department serves more than 300,000 residents across 130 square miles in Boise and surrounding areas.

Salary Information
For Firefighter/Paramedics, after completing the Recruit Academy, candidates will enter a Field Training Program with a Senior Paramedic. During the training program, Firefighter/Paramedics receive an additional 10% of their base wage, which can be maintained based on successful completion of the program and testing.

Requirements: Must be at least 18 years old High school diploma or GED Valid driver's license Current National Registry or state-issued EMS (EMT, Advanced, or Paramedic) Basic Certification by the close of the application period Ability to meet physically demanding standards The Boise Fire Department requires completion of the Personal History Questionnaire (PHQ) and Public Safety Self-Assessment (PSSA) along with the Firefighter exam. These can be completed through the National Testing Network (NTN) portal, along with the city application. 2024 Hiring Process
Recruit Academy begins March 10, 2025.

The hiring process is highly competitive and involves the following stages:

Written Exam and Application
September 1 – October 31, 2024: Online

During this window, applicants must: Create a profile on the National Testing Network (NTN) website and complete the written exam, Personal History Statement (PHS/PHQ), and PSSA. Submit an online application (City of Boise website/NeoGov) and attach EMT/AEMT/Paramedic certification. Applicants must complete both steps by the deadline. Note for Qualifying Applicants: Veteran's Preference Points (5-10 points) can be added to the written exam score with submission of DD2-14. Paramedic Preference Points (5 points) are available for paramedics with two or more years of full-time experience, with proper certification provided. A maximum of 15 preference points can be added to the written exam score. Paramedics with less than two years of experience are not eligible for the additional 5 points. Physical Fitness Test and Oral Interviews
January 6-11, 2025: In-Person

The top 100 applicants from the written exam will be invited to take the physical fitness test, with scheduling notices sent in early December 2024. The test will be pre-scheduled by last name.

The physical fitness test is pass/fail. Successful applicants will proceed to an oral interview the following day at the Fire Training Center.

Conditional Job Offers Extended
January 14, 2025

Conditional job offers will be extended, followed by pre-employment screenings, including drug testing and a physical exam with a Boise Fire Department physician.
