Financial Accountant Permanent, Full Time Wellington Based
We are seeking a dedicated and detail-oriented Financial Accountant to join our finance team.
Reporting to the Finance Manager, this role will play a vital role in maintaining accurate financial records in the general ledger, ensuring compliance with government regulations, and preparing financial statements that reflect the financial health of NZQA.
Managing the Financial Accounting team of four, this role will lead the team in completing core transactional processing, developing and maintaining effective financial procedures, ensuring internal control processes are operating as prescribed, implementing process/system improvements, and completing regulatory reporting requirements for both external and internal reporting.
Key Responsibilities Prepare and present financial reports, and statutory financial statements, monitor budgets / Balance Sheet and Cashflow Statement.
Manage the month-end and year-end financial general ledger close processes.
Coordinate audit processes with external auditors, and provide supporting documentation and financial analytical reviews and management commentaries.
Leading, managing and mentoring a team of four Finance staff to provide accounting and transactional processing services.
Promote a culture of customer service and continuous improvement within the team.
Maintain the accuracy of the general ledger by ensuring all transactions are properly recorded and reconciled by the Finance team.
Ensure internal control processes are operating as prescribed, including timely completion and clearance of bank and general ledger account reconciliations.
Ensure effective Treasury management processes e.g. update and monitoring of cashflow forecast and term deposit investments.
Skills and Experience Proven experience in a financial accounting role, preferably in the public sector.
Strong knowledge of NZ public sector entity financial reporting standards.
Experience in leading, managing and mentoring a team.
Excellent IT skills, e.g. Excel spreadsheets for data analysis and reporting.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
Ability to work under pressure and manage competing priorities to meet tight deadlines.
Detail oriented, accurate and ability to work independently and in a team.
Confident, self-motivated with a positive attitude to work.
Qualifications Professional chartered accountancy qualification.
Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
Salary range - $103,194 - $114,201
