Our newly aligned Strategy and Finance team play an important role in ensuring that the Council makes informed, prudent and sustainable financial decisions. They drive how the Council meets its financial objectives, lead the internal financial control environment, and deliver on management and external financial reporting.
Working closely with other business units to provide financial and commercial expertise, our Strategy and Finance team are on a united journey to install a customer centric internal service provider and financial excellence across Te Kaunihera.
We have an exciting opportunity for an experienced Finance Transformation Lead to identify and deliver key projects and programmes that enhance the delivery of financial services and reporting across Council.
As part of the Strategy and Finance leadership team, the newly created role of Finance Transformation Lead will be responsible for providing high quality advice, direction, and pro-active support, including hands-on assistance where necessary. You will be a natural at establishing, developing, and maintaining effective and lasting stakeholder relationships.
Given the importance of this role to the improved delivery of financial services you will play a leading role in providing leadership and clarity in delivering key finance transformation projects. You will support group activities, programmes, projects, and initiatives by:
Responsibility for project/programme schedule development and execution, ensuring initiatives are identified and sequenced appropriately.
Providing input into the Strategy and Finance lead team and coordinate strategic programmes, projects, and cross-Group initiatives.
Providing thought leadership within the Strategy and Finance group and externally to identify areas of improvement across both systems and processes.
Identifying and helping address resource constraints that may impact delivery of projects.
Driving a culture of results, evidence-based decisions, outcomes, critical thinking, and customer perspective.

To support the Council to achieve its vision and priorities, you will need to draw on your technical expertise along with your confidence to analyse information to solve problems and make sound decisions. Engaging effectively with external and internal stakeholders to understand and respond to their perspectives and needs is an important aspect of this role as is your ability to work inclusively with people from different backgrounds and with different abilities.
A bachelor's degree in strategic/business planning and management or relevant field with 10+ years of working at a Senior management level within a Finance Department dealing with complex financial accounting matters will be required.
You'll have experience and a passion for managing without direct authority and be comfortable operating in complex financial environments while embedding a positive culture. You'll enjoy a challenge, take initiative, and have a desire to continue learning the profession you love, while growing in an organisation committed to your success and wellbeing.
