New Zealand Police (NZP) is the lead agency responsible for reducing crime and enhancing community safety. We work in partnership with individuals, communities, businesses, and other public sector agencies to achieve our vision of Safer Communities Together.
Following a recent corporate workforce alignment, there are a number of new roles that have been created in the Finance team to support business leadership and enhance capability. The CFO and Finance Leadership team now have a re-energized collective focus and have assessed the current state of the group to determine their initial priorities, of which these roles are key to delivering.
Finance Business Partners are internal finance consultants aligned to the New Zealand Police business portfolios. The position reports to the Senior Finance Business Partner and is responsible for the provision of trusted, insightful, and comprehensive financial advice and support to the assigned portfolios leadership team.
In this role, your advice will go beyond the numbers; you will be informing and influencing to ensure sound financial decision making within a fast-paced, diverse, and challenging environment. This role will require high levels of flexibility, resilience, emotional intelligence, and an ability to work with a range of senior Police stakeholders. Excellent communication skills and a proven ability to translate data into insights for our customers in a meaningful way are essential requirements.
Key Accountabilities:
Understand the NZ Police and assigned portfolio's key business drivers, cost drivers, pressures and risks using this knowledge to provide proactive, relevant, and integrated business and financial advice to business units.
Provide sound strategic analysis and options, informing, and influencing decision making and presenting analysis to assess, support or challenge key decisions.
Deliver timely, accurate and forward-looking financial information and business support to ensure effective financial management, oversight, decision-making and risk management.
Mentor and coach junior staff as required to develop talent and build the people capability required to deliver outcomes.
Link financial and non-financial information together so that managers understand the impact of decisions on their financial performance and that of Police as a whole, providing them with options to achieve their business objectives within financial parameters.
Deliver the implementation of budgeting and forecasting process to ensure accurate and timely financial plans that are strategy led and aligned to business plans.
Contribute to the development and/or validation of business cases, ensuring benefits can be achieved, resourcing is realistic and the correct processes and policies for consideration of cases are followed.
Act as the trusted advisor to the budget holders within their assigned portfolio and champion and embed a total customer service focus across the Finance Group.

Strong experience in driving outcomes and managing diverse stakeholder interests.
High standards of professionalism and performance-driven mindset, with a demonstrable commitment to ongoing professional development.
Applicants must be qualified Chartered Accountant (CAANZ) or equivalent, with 3-4 years' experience post full membership.

This position is covered by a collective agreement and salary will commence between $136,615 and $141,168 dependent on skills and experience relevant to the role.
