Auckland Council's Financial Advisory unit is looking for a Finance Business Partner to join our Financial Advisory department. We're one of the largest financial advisory teams in the country, so this is a brilliant opportunity to become a trusted advisor to a government organisation making a difference in our very own Tamaki Makaurau.
As a Business Partner, your advice will support improving financial performance results and ensure financial structures are aligned to deliver organisational strategies.
You can expect to focus on annual and 10-year planning, budgeting, and forecasting processes for departments and/or business units and provide performance insights. Specifically, this role will support our Community portfolio.
Day-to-day you can expect to work on:
Month-end process and forecasting, sharing of financial performance results, annual budgeting process.
Understanding business risk.
Proactively looking for process improvement opportunities, savings, and efficiencies.
Helping the business understand to promote financially prudent business decisions.
Reviewing business cases, building financial scenario modelling, and providing a commercial lens on contracts and capital projects.
Helping develop financial training materials and discussing financial topics with people from all walks of life, who are often non-financial.
Analysing and interpreting data and being able to tell the story.
Coaching business staff to upskill their financial acumen.
Adhoc tasks such as political queries and responding to Local Government Official Information Act requests.
This position requires experience in similar business partnering positions, ideally from within large and complex organisations. Experience working in local government would be advantageous, though not essential.
You will ideally have some exposure to Contracts and Asset Management Planning (both from an asset and capital planning perspective).
We will be looking for experience in:
A thorough understanding of management accounting principles and techniques, including experience in planning, budgeting, and forecasting.
Preparing month-end financial results and forecasts.
Understanding and application of internal and external business drivers.
Working with SAP.

The salary range for this role is $110k-$115k.
