Finance Assistant

FNZ is seeking a dedicated and detail-oriented Finance Assistant to join the New Zealand Finance team on a permanent basis. This role, based in our Wellington office, will involve providing crucial support in managing the day-to-day financial operations of the team. The successful candidate will be responsible for assisting in the processing of transactions, ensuring compliance with financial regulations, and supporting the preparation of financial reports. As a Finance Assistant, you will work closely with the NZ Finance team, which is responsible for overseeing financial operations for several key FNZ entities in New Zealand. These include the New Zealand platform business, the solution centre, and Hatch Invest NZ, which together encompass a workforce of approximately 430 employees. This role requires a proactive approach to tasks and excellent attention to detail to help ensure that FNZ meets its financial obligations and compliance standards. Responsibilities:

Ownership of the AP process including:

Issuing Purchase Orders in accordance with Group procurement procedure
Coding supplier invoices in the Finance system
Checking Staff expense claims and entering into the Finance system
Preparation of payments
Liaising with internal budget holders within the NZ businesses

Preparation of bank reconciliations
Assisting in the managing of the fixed asset register
Assisting in the preparation of intercompany and customer invoices
Maintaining record of bank mandates and assisting CFO in the communication with banks when change required
Assisting in the management of record keeping to an auditable standard
Assisting in the preparation of relevant management reports and supporting the year end audit process
Assisting in the preparation of tax files such as GST and FBT returns
Assisting with ad hoc tasks within the NZ Finance department

What are we ideally looking for in a successful candidate?

Excellent communication skills, along with a good sense of humour
Ability to learn quickly in a dynamic fast-paced industry
Enjoy working as part of a high performing team
Strong experience with Microsoft packages especially Excel
Understanding of accounting principles, studying towards CA or equivalent
Be hungry to learn and willing to take on challenges outside of their comfort zone
Able to take ownership of your work, collaborate effectively with non-finance colleagues and support other members of the finance team

As in any finance role, our teams experience busier periods i.e. end of month and financial year which require all staff to pull together and potentially work extra hours as required. Hence the ability to work well in a team environment and meet deadlines is essential in this role.
