Are you interested in livestock genetics and want a perfect mix of on-farm and in-office work? This Farm Technician (Genetics) role could be the one for you.
You'll enjoy a great blend of outdoor on-farm work and indoor office work. There are four programmes across two farms, involving sheep, cattle, and deer. You'll work as part of the farm teams to collect the physical measurement data of stud stock as well as other on-farm data such as pasture monitoring, livestock records, and farm performance.
The role involves recording data on various farm-specific data collection hardware such as Tru-Test and Gallagher gear and agriculture software programmes such as FarmIQ and Farmax. Sound skills in Excel with good attention to detail and accurate data entry are required.
Both farms have high-performing teams, running progressive genetics programmes, supported through excellent on-farm infrastructure and a specialist geneticist team. The Farm Managers will work side-by-side with you to ensure that work gets completed to a high standard on all four programmes.

Although this role is advertised as full-time, flexibility is negotiable for the right applicant.
The Farms Freestone farm is located 25 minutes south of Te Anau just outside of Manapouri, it is 717 ha running the Wapiti deer stud and the South Island Genetic Calibration ewe flock. Duncraigen Farm is 10 minutes further south, bordering Fiordland National Park, with 1322ha running an Angus bull stud and a Romney sheep stud.
