Mo matou | About us Established in 1998, Pillars Ka Pou Whakahou exists to help create positive futures for the children / tamariki of parents or caregivers in prison throughout Aotearoa New Zealand. We believe children of people in prison are children of promise and potential.
Our dedicated team works throughout communities and in prisons throughout the country, delivering programmes and wraparound services for whanau along with mentoring for children.
Pillars has a contract with the Invercargill and Christchurch Prisons, where they operate the Family Pathway Centre. This was established to provide an environment that would foster strong relationships with inmates, their tamariki, and whanau.
Mo te tunga | About the role This is a contract position to cover weekend shifts on a rostered basis, ensuring the smooth operating of the Family Pathway Centre, including opening, and closing of the centre. The Family Pathway Coordinator will be required to work a minimum of 16 hours per month, on weekend days.
This role is responsible for providing resources and tools that create a positive environment to support father and child bonding. They will initiate contact with families, encouraging strong relationships between parents, whanau, and their tamariki.
Keeping abreast of appropriate legislation and best practice requirements, the coordinator will participate in evaluations of the Pathway Centre and provide weekly reporting.
Nga pumanawatanga ou | What you will bring You will have a minimum of 2 years' experience working in a social service or provider organisation, working with vulnerable children and their whanau.
Key to your success will be your relationship building skills, forming trusted relationships with a diverse range of people and cultures. You will have a natural ability to actively listen, communicate, and tailor your approach depending on the situation.
You will be a self-starter and able to work independently as a contractor, whilst benefiting from connecting to the Pillars team.
Known for your ability to plan, you will be organised, have strong attention to detail and excellent time management skills.
To stand out from others, you will have an empathetic nature but with the resilience needed to work in some highly demanding situations.
