Expression of Interest - Lifeguard roles 2025We are calling for Expressions of Interest for our permanent Lifeguarding opportunities across our Wellington Pools starting February 2025. We are looking for people at all stages of life. Forget your preconceptions of what a lifeguard looks like - you just need to be a confident swimmer, who is great with people, and we will train you!
You will gain at a minimum the following qualifications:
Pool Life Saving Practicing Certificate (PLPC)Working as a Lifeguard for Wellington Pools means you'll benefit from being part of an organisation that grows its people. In lifeguarding there is a variety of additional courses and development opportunities for you to advance your career.

Our Lifeguards care for all our pools across Wellington these include Freyberg, Karori, Keith Spry, Tawa, Wellington Regional Aquatic Centre and during the summer months Khandallah and Thorndon.
The pools across Wellington provide a vital service to our city - and as a lifeguard you'll play a key role in helping people get the most out of their recreational facilities, and have a safe, enjoyable experience. You'll work in a stimulating environment and have plenty of development opportunities within Wellington City Council. We have a rostered system which includes some weekends.
No experience is necessary as we will provide all training and support to get you up to speed and we will pay you to train! You will be working in a supportive environment where we will ensure that you have all the skills and knowledge to thrive in your new career.
We can offer full time employment on a 3-week rotating shift or part time packages ranging from 12-20 hours with a mix of weekday/weekend hours including early mid and late options.
We pay $27.80 per hour for permanent part-time Lifeguards, and $59,547 per annum for full-time Lifeguards.

All applications must be submitted online. We operate our facility on a rostered system which includes some weekends and public holidays. Let us know your preference of position above when you apply. Please note that it is also important that you have access to reliable transport to ensure you can make your shift times.
We will be reviewing applications as they come in and booking those who are successfully shortlisted into our assessment centres from the week of the 6th of January 2025.

Applicants must be 16 years of age or over and as this role is safety sensitive you will require to obtain and maintain police vetting clearance, as well as undergo drug and alcohol screenings, and health testing. Access to reliable transport is also a must!
