Permanent full-time position
We're Working for Wellington. Wellington City Council's team provides more than 400 services every day for Wellingtonians - everything from parks and pools to consents and cemeteries - playing our part in making Poneke an inclusive, sustainable, and creative capital for people to live, work and play.
Poneke is on the cusp of transformational change, responding to many of the challenges cities around the world are facing, while delivering an inclusive, sustainable, and creative capital for people to live, work and play.
We are set to deliver the most ambitious capital works programme our city has ever seen. The Infrastructure & Delivery group is central to much of this mahi - including delivering the renewal programme for Council owned properties.
Au ake mahi | What you'll do
As a Project Manager in the Assets and Projects team, you will be supporting and driving the delivery of the capital renewals programme for a diverse portfolio of Council owned buildings. This role combines the need to provide robust project management guidance, advice, governance and controls whilst managing stakeholder relationships and providing prompt reporting.
Wellington City Council operates a wide range of properties - making this a very varied and interesting role. You'll be joining a wider team lead by Iestyn Burke - who has a history of building high-performing, collaborative teams where you're empowered and get a sense of achievement from the work they do. All in all, a bold leader who makes bold decisions - and who wants to create the environment where the team operates proactively.
We're looking for you to bring:
The usual project manager toolkit - including budget/cost management, risk management, knowledge management, contract management etc.
Experience in construction, preferably with experience on vertical construction projects.
Willingness to promote an energised culture focused on collaborative working in the interests of the Council as a whole.
The ability to develop business cases and coach others to do the same.
Strong stakeholder engagement and communication skills.
Good commercial acumen and an understanding of sound contract and procurement practices.
A pragmatic and flexible approach.
A project management qualification at an NCEA Level 4 or greater (such as Prince2 or PMI) or a Bachelor of Civil or Structural Engineering with the relevant project management experience will be ideal.
This is a chance to be involved with work that touches the lives of Wellingtonians every day.
