Patent Attorney – Executive – Life Sciences / Pharma / Biopharma Our client is a leading IP Specialist, with teams across Australia & New Zealand providing IP expertise and service to clients all over the world. We are searching for an Executive Patent Attorney, with a primary focus on life sciences, pharmaceutical & biopharmaceutical industries. This role will be part of the firm's leadership team, reporting directly to the CEO. Your primary responsibility is to provide clear, commercially focused patent services and advice to clients in the life sciences sector. You will also play a pivotal role in driving business development and building strong client relationships, both domestically and internationally.
Key Responsibilities Lead and develop the patent team, driving performance and fostering a culture of continuous improvement
Provide expert, practical patent advice to clients in the life sciences sector, considering alternative solutions
Contribute to and implement strategic initiatives to drive the firm's growth and direction
Ensure timely and effective communication with clients, maintaining high service standards
Manage global patent clearances and prosecutions, particularly in Australia and New Zealand
Identify potential patent risks and opportunities for clients, proposing solutions
Engage in business development to generate new client relationships and enhance public communications
Oversee team performance, resource management, and adherence to internal policies
Collaborate with the executive team, attending meetings and contributing to strategic discussions
Promote a supportive, professional team environment and ensure staff training and development
Key Selection Criteria Proven track record in delivering strategic, commercially focused patent advice to top-tier clients
Demonstrate experience in managing pre-litigation strategies and patent office processes effectively
Ability to manage a substantial practice, taking full accountability for outcomes
Demonstrated contribution to shaping and driving the firm's strategic growth
Successful leadership in creating and fostering positive cultural change
Proactive in encouraging innovation and fostering continuous improvement initiatives
Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills
Confident communicator with direct client engagement experience, including the ability to present ideas effectively and pitch to potential clients
Solid understanding of financial markets, particularly in relation to early-stage technology companies, including venture capital, angel investment, IPOs, and related financial activities
Demonstrated leadership skills, with the ability to mentor and develop team members
Ability to handle complex and challenging situations with professionalism and composure
PhD in life sciences, biology, or chemistry, and a qualified Patent Attorney
