Corrections Officers – Invercargill Prison
Are you interested in becoming a Corrections Officer at Invercargill Prison?
We are currently at our resourcing capacity; however, we are accepting Expressions of Interest for opportunities in 2025.
As a Corrections Officer, you will be working in a challenging environment supported by a team of experienced professional colleagues. You will engage with people positively and have the opportunity to change the lives of the people in prison and their whanau by influencing change through your interactions. You will spend much of your time working within the unit(s), supervising the people in prison with their daily routines, escorting them around the site to education programmes or other appointments. You will monitor, assess, and manage behaviour and safety, helping control and lessen any conflict within the unit(s).

Ability to work rostered shifts across a 24/7 pattern including weekends and public holidays
Experience within a Kaupapa Maori or Pasifika environment, while not essential, is desirable
To be eligible, you need:
The right to work in New Zealand or the ability to apply for a valid work visa
A full New Zealand Driver Licence (or eligible on a Restricted or International Licence)
To declare any conflicts of interest and previous convictions. This role is exempt from Clean Slate, and all conviction history is released
The ability to pass a drug test
Be medically fit for employment and complete a Medical Assessment and Physical Readiness Assessment
Live within 100 km of Invercargill Prison or be prepared to move to meet this requirement
The starting salary for this position is $67,519 per annum. Once in the role, there are opportunities to increase your salary as you achieve national qualifications (Level 3 at $72,197, and Level 4 at $77,713).

5 weeks annual leave
$4000 shift allowance per annum, in addition to your salary
11-week fully paid training programme
