Our environment here is part of who we are, and at ORC, we work each day to look after it.The OpportunityOur Communications and Marketing team at the Otago Regional Council is looking for an Enviroschools Regional Coordinator - Central to join the team on a permanent part-time basis (20 hrs per week) in our busy Alexandra office.The Enviroschools programme takes a holistic approach to the development of resilient and sustainable communities.
It is an action-based programme where nga akonga (learners) are empowered to connect with and explore their environment, and then to take action in collaboration with their communities.The purpose of this role is to coordinate the growing Enviroschools programme in Central Otago and Queenstown Lakes, involving training and coordinating facilitators and supporting them in running the Enviroschools programme and events.
It also involves connecting Enviroschools Otago at a strategic level with the National Enviroschools team, the Regional Council and Central Otago/Queenstown Lakes District Councils.Responsibilities:Working closely with the Team Lead of Enviroschools Otago - the Regional Coordinator Lead, and with all regional and national participants to support Enviroschools strategic direction.Training and mentoring the facilitators, and supporting them in getting the professional development they need.Developing and maintaining strong relationships with our district council partners and other external stakeholders.Embracing diverse perspectives and upholding the ORC-Iwi partnership structure to build strong lasting relationships that honour the significance of mana whenua and support the broader involvement of Maori.Identifying and following up opportunities for positive media coverage related to Enviroschools events and school projects.Assisting facilitators to motivate and guide schools to explore and take action towards creating a sustainable school community.If you are keen to make a difference and influence change for our environmental community, then this is the role for you!About YouOur ideal candidate will have:A tertiary qualification in education or environmental management or related field.Experience of working with New Zealand schools.A team leadership style that can bring people together.A good understanding of education processes and techniques.Demonstrated written and verbal communication skills.A personal commitment to Te Tiriti o Waitangi and the Enviroschools kaupapa.What we offerWe recognise and celebrate diversity within Team ORC and are committed to providing a work environment that supports inclusion and equal opportunities.
