Salary Information:
Hourly: $38.89 – $48.92
Monthly: $6,740.25 – $8,479.50
Annually: $80,883 – $101,754
Plus 6% City-paid PERS contribution

Department Overview:
The Canby Police Department is recruiting for Police Officer positions and building an eligibility list for future vacancies. Certified Police Officers engage in law enforcement and crime prevention, including discovery, investigation, report preparation, and patrol. The department includes 29 sworn positions, including a chief and two captains, with opportunities for specialized roles.

Canby is a community of nearly 19,000 residents located 25 miles south of Portland in Clackamas County, covering 4.5 square miles in the Willamette Valley. Known as "Oregon's Garden Spot," Canby offers a family-friendly atmosphere with low crime rates and a supportive community.

Job Requirements:
Age: Minimum 21 at the time of hire
Citizenship: Required
Education: High school diploma or GED
Driver's License: Required, with an acceptable driving record
English Proficiency: Required
Vision: Must meet Oregon DPSST standards
Academy Certification:
Entry Level: Must attend and complete Police Academy with DPSST Basic certification within one year of appointment.
Lateral Candidates: Must have current Basic Police DPSST certification or equivalent.
Preferred Qualifications:
College-level training or experience in law enforcement
Familiarity with the community and surrounding area
Additional training in first aid, CPR, hazardous materials, firearms, etc.
Bilingual in English and Spanish
Hiring Process:

Physical Demands:
The role requires frequent sitting, standing, communication, and manipulation of objects. Officers must be mobile and able to operate motor vehicles. Duties may include moving equipment or individuals weighing up to 200 pounds. Equipment typically weighs over 25 pounds. Officers must have strength and agility to handle physically demanding situations, including combative individuals.
