The Whakapapa whanau are a small but ambitious team, running year-round operations on the northern slopes of Mt Ruapehu. In winter, from June until October, this includes a world-class ski area. In summer, from December until April, this includes our summer sightseeing operation, heroing our iconic Sky Waka gondola. Each year we welcome hundreds of thousands of manuhiri (guests) to Whakapapa, many with life-long connections to the maunga (mountain) and surrounding region, some even third or fourth generation.
Mo te tunga | About the role Everyday at Whakapapa brings exciting new challenges and things to do. We require a fully qualified electrician to deliver high quality electrical work and support the team with maintenance project. In this role, you can expect to:
Carry out all electrical maintenance in accordance with relevant legislation Equipment installation (imagine flying in on a helicopter to install our winter snowmaking) Testing and tagging of equipment Troubleshooting, maintenance and repair of all things electrical Assist with ordering of parts and supplies as needed Maintain relationships with suppliers Liaise with onsite contractors Ensuring operational checks are completed and standards are maintained Electrical work might be your main task, but you may also be asked to assist with general maintenance duties as and when required.

Essential: an electrical qualification and New Zealand registration (or the ability to obtain) A broad knowledge of maintenance-related skills including some hydraulic and mechanical knowledge Ability to build effective working relationships with a wide range of people Have a thirst for a challenge, love the outdoors and be passionate about the snow industry - must have a tolerance for uncertain weather conditions. ***On October 27, 2023, Ruapehu Alpine Lifts Limited was put into Receivership with Brendon Gibson and Neale Jackson appointed as Receivers. They transferred ownership of the Turoa ski area to Pure Turoa Limited in April 2024 and are continuing to work on the sale of Whakapapa.
