Mo te tunga | About the role We are looking for a dedicated and passionate GP to join the Defence Health Centre team in Ohakea.
Your primary focus will be to provide medical care to uniformed personnel, ensuring they are fit for deployment and receive a high standard of comprehensive health care during their service with NZDF.
Enrolment numbers are significantly lower than the civilian GP Sector and overall our population maintains good health.
The main focus of this role is primary healthcare, but it may also include: Acute and emergency health care along with occupational and preventive medicine.
Providing training and clinical oversight for medics and other health colleagues.
Contributing to NZDF health quality initiatives and improvements.
An opportunity to specialise in aviation medicine.
This is a very well compensated dynamic role that adds value to our personnel and the wider base community.
The salary band for this role is between $188,541 - $250,584 dependent on qualifications and GP experience.
Nga pukenga me nga wheako | Skills and Experience As an experienced GP, ideally vocationally registered, you'll be part of a multi-disciplinary health team delivering Primary Health care, acute care and occupational assessment and treatment to Military Personnel.
You will also have: The ability to provide training and clinical leadership to the wider team, including military medics.
Excellent communication skills including demonstrating empathy when relating to the health and well-being of patients.
Demonstrated understanding and appreciation of relevant NZ legislation.
Proven ability to make effective recommendations, including health management plans that incorporate both patient needs and organisational responsibilities and risks.
Experience working in a collaborative and multi-disciplinary environment, easily building strong relationships and working effectively across a diverse range of stakeholders.

You must have a five (5) year background history that can be verified and assessed appropriately by the NZ Security Intelligence Service (NZSIS) to determine if you are suitable for a security clearance at this level.
