About the Role: Leadership of the Aviat Network Management and Automation Software Development Group, responsible for the development of System Software, User Interface Software, Element and Network Management Software and other software products as required, including management of external outsourcing partners.
This Director level role will lead the NMS and Automation Software organization. This includes managing a team of senior technical staff, engineers, managers and team leaders reporting directly to this position, including performance appraisals, objective setting, career development, task assignment, empowerment, motivation and training needs.
The Director of NMS and Automation is required to work in close co-operation with all other members of the Product Development leadership team members, especially with the System Engineering and embedded Software group as well as with the Product Line Managers (PLM) and Program/Project Managers (PMO).
Responsibilities:

Responsibility for the overall pipeline of NMS and Automation software engineering projects, including their delivery according to schedule and budget.
Responsibility for the quality and life cycle management of NMS and Automation software products.
Responsibility for continued efficiency improvement activities in software development methods, tools, and processes fitting to Aviat's Gating process and the processes of the other Product Development functions including Embedded Software, Hardware and Quality Assurance.
Manage day-to-day activities with key partners in the NMS and Automation software development domain.
Directing and collaborating with Project Management (PMO) on the definition and execution of software development projects.
Maintaining a capable software development organization including hiring of the right talents to meet the business plans for future Software product development.
Planning and Management of the NMS SW development budget in cooperation with the PD Business Operations Manager.
Responsibility for support engineering for software products, which are in the sustaining engineering state (after Gate 5).
Application of Aviat quality assurance practices to NMS and Automation software engineering projects in collaboration with the Product Development QA and Test group.
People Management for NMS Software organization. Work with staff to get the best from them, provide feedback and remove obstacles.
Develop goals and objectives to increase the skill and performance level of the NMS and Automation software development group.

Secondary responsibilities:

Act as overall technical Leader for architects in embedded Software and Network Management Software. In close collaboration with System Engineering ensure a consistent System Architecture across all software products (including NMS and Embedded Software).
Technical liaison with end users and customers, as required e.g. for UX design and new product introduction.
Maintain currency with industry practices and the evolution of software engineering technologies.

Qualifications & Competencies:

Bachelors and Master's Degree (preferably Engineering or Computer Science).
Advanced software engineering and product development experience, preferably in the telecommunications, networking, and network management domain.
Solid experience leading a group of technical staff in a commercial software development environment ideally in Network Management Software domain.
Software Engineering knowledge from academic and commercial experience.
Understanding of all Software Engineering practices relevant for Aviat's business.
Telecommunication, networking, and network management technical knowledge.
Staff management principles and practices, employment and health and safety law.
Project planning and execution skills, preferably using Agile principles.
Technical Leadership skills in Software Development as well as x-functional leadership and people management skills.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
Presentation and negotiation skills.
Strong team leadership and motivation skills.
Working under pressure and on multiple priorities.
