Digital Engineering Manager

Digital Engineering Manager
Company:

Transpower New Zealand

Details of the offer

Transpower owns and operates New Zealand's National Grid - the unique high voltage transmission network ($5b in critical infrastructure) connecting areas of generation with towns and cities across New Zealand.

At the heart of the electricity sector, Transpower proactively plans for the future grid that will connect renewable energy projects and enable a transition to a net zero carbon economy. Read more about this here: Whakamana i Te Mauri Hiko - Empowering our Energy Future | Transpower.

Our BIM/Digital Engineering journey commenced in 2019 and has been gaining momentum. We have long term funding in place and an exciting programme of work to achieve over the next decade. This will ensure we have the right design information at the right time to improve our decision-making and design processes.

About The Team

Tactical Engineering and Estimation provides the engineering support and expertise to planning, investigations and project delivery functions within Grid Development. It ensures that Transpower's objectives are met through quality, cost-effective engineering design which is carried out by external Engineering Consultants.

The Digital Engineering Team, within Tactical Engineering, drives transverse optimisations for Transpower through digitally enabled project execution. The team works to:

Deliver and embed digital engineering ways of working within Transpower's operating model to create tangible and intangible benefits across the asset lifecycle.
Ensure the business understands the digital engineering value proposition for Transpower.

The opportunity

Based in Wellington, Auckland or Christchurch, you'll lead three Regional Digital Engineering Managers and champion, lead, manage and actively engage with Transpower staff and the supply chains to:

Embed digital engineering methods, process, frameworks, and practices across the asset lifecycle.
Ensure the digital engineering methodology is integrated within the wider Transpower strategy and context and its implementation creates measurable time and quality advantages over non-digital engineering.
Drive continuous improvement in digital engineering within Transpower.

You'll also ensure relevant aspects of digital engineering are integrated into Transpower's data and information management frameworks, and benefits realisation is in line with business cases.

As we scale and drive throughput to enable accelerated electrification, you'll ensure efficiencies are captured through a reduction in project delivery time and an uplift in quality which results in cost savings, resulting in Transpower and its supply chain achieving a measurable uplift in digital engineering capability.

Working directly for the asset owner offers a unique experience. In this role, you'll collaborate across Transpower and with our Engineering Design Panel, enhancing your expertise, influence, and enterprise leadership skills. You'll thrive in our supportive culture while contributing to a net zero carbon future for Aotearoa.

What will you bring?

Well-developed communication and influencing skills at all levels of the project and construction process, including writing and reviewing technical documentation.

Your curiosity and active listening skills will help you forge strong relationships both within and outside the organisation. By effectively communicating the advantages of adopting BIM/Digital Engineering, you'll motivate others to take action, ensuring these benefits are fully realised.

Your career to date, CV, and cover letter will clearly demonstrate:

Demonstrated leadership experience, including contributing to and advocating for Digital Engineering at governance meetings.
Experience developing and leading strategic change projects.
Experience with digital engineering / building information modelling; leading the implementation for a main contractor or asset owner.
Relationship Management; ability to develop and manage strong relationships within the organisation, the supply chain, the industry and other stakeholders.
Communication: well-developed communication skills are crucial for this role, enabling you to work closely with key stakeholders and astute internal customers throughout the organisation and beyond. You'll build support for the changes required to ensure the effective implementation of digital engineering ways of working.
Commercial acumen.
