We are looking for a dedicated Day Surgery Practice Nurse to be a part of our team, delivering high-quality, patient-centred care.About the RoleAs a Day Surgery Practice Nurse at DCH, you will play a vital role in supporting patients throughout their surgical experience. From pre-operative assessments to post-operative care and discharge, you will ensure each patient's journey is seamless, comfortable, and safe. You'll work in partnership with surgeons, specialist physicians, and our interdisciplinary team to create a supportive environment and deliver exceptional care.Key ResponsibilitiesPatient Care: Conduct thorough pre-operative assessments, set up IVs, administer medications, and provide emotional support to patients and families. Monitor patients before, during, and after surgery, including managing post-operative pain and wound care.Patient Education & Discharge: Educate patients and families on post-op care, provide detailed discharge instructions, and conduct follow-up calls to assess recovery and address concerns.Clinical Skills: Perform procedures such as venepuncture, cannulation, and wound care management with proficiency in medical equipment and monitoring devices.Teamwork & Communication: Collaborate with the healthcare team, maintain clear communication with patients, and participate in care planning.Administrative Duties: Maintain accurate patient records, manage admissions, transfers, and discharges, and participate in quality improvement initiatives.Capabilities RequiredUse critical thinking and nursing expertise to deliver evidence-based, holistic care.Maintain high standards in documentation and patient record-keeping.Cultivate a culturally sensitive environment promoting patient safety, independence, and quality of life.Ability to stand for extended periods and move quickly in emergency situations.Manual dexterity for performing clinical procedures.Capable of lifting and moving patients safely.Additional ResponsibilitiesAdhere to infection control protocols and safety standards.Demonstrate flexibility in work schedule, including possible early morning starts and weekend (Saturday).Participate in continuing education to maintain up-to-date clinical knowledge.Inventory management.Safety, Quality & Risk ManagementAdhere to all relevant legislative and clinical standards.Take proactive steps to enhance care quality, adhering to best practices and participating in audits.Professional DevelopmentEngage in personal and professional growth activities, including continuing education.Contribute to the success of the team by embodying DCH's values and commitment to excellence.Qualifications & ExperienceRequired: Registered Nurse with the New Zealand Nursing Council, current practising certificate, and a minimum of 4-5 years of clinical experience, ideally in day surgery or practice nursing.Preferred: Enrolment in a Nursing Council of New Zealand (NCNZ) approved Professional Development and Recognition Programme (PDRP), and private healthcare experience.What DCH OffersCompetitive salary based on experience and qualifications.Opportunities for clinical variety, career progression, and professional development.Friendly team and a safe work environment.Be part of a cutting-edge healthcare model with a commitment to transformative day surgery care.Position DetailsThis is a part-time rostered position based in our central Christchurch clinic.If you're a Registered Nurse passionate about patient-oriented day-care and excited to join a team transforming healthcare in Christchurch, apply today!Interviews are planned for 16th December 2024!Your application will include the following questions:Which of the following statements best describes your right to work in New Zealand?How many years' experience do you have as a practice nurse?How much notice are you required to give your current employer?Do you have a current Police Check (Criminal Record Check) for employment?Are you willing to undergo a pre-employment medical check?Do you have a current New Zealand driver's licence?Do you own or have regular access to a car?Are you currently registered with the Nursing Council of New Zealand?
