As our business continues to expand, we are looking for a skilled Database Developer to join our team and support our growing data management needs.
Job Summary: The Database Developer will be responsible for designing, developing, and maintaining our company's databases to ensure the seamless operation of our online car rental services. This role will be critical in managing the large volumes of data generated by our systems, including customer bookings, vehicle inventory, and location-based services. The ideal candidate will have strong technical skills, experience with database management systems, and the ability to work collaboratively with our IT team to optimize backend processes.
Key Responsibilities:

Database Design and Development:

Design, implement, and maintain database architectures that support the company's online rental services, including customer reservations, vehicle management, and location-based logistics.
Develop complex SQL queries and stored procedures to retrieve, manipulate, and manage large datasets efficiently.
Design and implement database triggers, indexes, and views to optimize performance and maintain data integrity.

System Integration and Optimization:

Work closely with software developers to integrate database solutions with our online booking platform, mobile applications, and third-party APIs.
Analyze and optimize existing database systems to improve performance, scalability, and efficiency, ensuring they can handle high traffic volumes and large data sets.

Data Management and Security:

Implement robust data management practices, including data validation, error handling, and transaction control to ensure data accuracy and consistency.
Develop and enforce data security protocols to protect sensitive customer information and comply with data protection regulations.
Perform regular database backups, restoration tests, and disaster recovery planning to minimize the risk of data loss.

Maintenance and Support:

Monitor database performance using tools and techniques to identify and resolve bottlenecks or potential issues before they impact operations.
Provide ongoing maintenance and support for database systems, including troubleshooting and resolving database-related issues as they arise.
Collaborate with IT support teams to manage database migrations, upgrades, and new deployments.

Documentation and Reporting:

Create and maintain detailed documentation of database architectures, data flows, and development processes to support future development and troubleshooting efforts.
Generate regular reports on database performance, data usage, and system health for management and stakeholders.
Participate in project planning and contribute to the development of technical specifications and requirements.

Collaboration and Communication:

Liaise with different departments, including operations, customer service, and management, to understand their data needs and ensure the database systems support their requirements.
Provide training and guidance to other team members on database-related topics, including best practices for data handling and security.


 
Work Hours and Compensation:

Hourly Rate: NZD $66 per hour.
Work Hours: 40 hours per week, Monday to Friday. 

Qualifications:

Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field.
Proven experience as a Database Developer or similar role, with a focus on backend data development.
Strong proficiency in SQL and experience with database management systems (e.g., MySQL, PostgreSQL, SQL Server).
Familiarity with database design, data modeling, and optimization techniques.
Experience with cloud-based database services (e.g., AWS RDS, Azure SQL Database) is a plus.
Knowledge of data security best practices and experience implementing security measures.
Excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to work independently or as part of a team.
Strong communication skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with technical and non-technical team members.
