RESPONSIBLE TO: Manager and Registered Nurse
Primary Objective: To provide nutritious, appetising meals of high standards, recognising individual dietary and cultural needs of our Residents.
KEY AREAS
Duties:
Flexibility and adaptability are required as work load and duties may change; Coronation Lodge Rest Home operates seven days a week.
Serve breakfast and hot drinks in the dining room and in the residents' rooms as required.
Prepare and serve morning tea (as per menu) with hot drinks.
Cook lunch meats and vegetables, and prepare desserts.
Prepare and serve afternoon tea.
Cook dinner, including soup, cut fresh fruit, and serve.
Clean dishes, the kitchen, and dining room.
Serve supper.
Prepare and plan for the next day's menu.
Set tables for dinner, prepare fruit, drinks, and bread and butter for residents, serve meals, wash dishes, and manage kitchen laundry and general cleaning as required.
Order food, maintain food supplies, plan menus (with input from the Manager and Residents), supervise other kitchen staff, and ensure the kitchen runs smoothly and cost-effectively while adhering to budget requirements.
Health and Safety: Follow standard precautions to ensure a safe environment. Be involved in the workplace health and safety system, adhering to correct procedures and using equipment safely. Report all accidents and incidents, inform your manager of any health and safety concerns, and keep the workplace tidy to minimise risks.
Hygiene: Maintain the highest standards of hygiene in the kitchen and all work areas, including properly washed and sterilised dishes and clean benches, tables, and utensils.
Equipment: Maintain all equipment in good working order and correctly store and use all equipment and foodstuffs.
Ethical Standards: Uphold the rights of Residents and keep all matters relating to Residents or Coronation Lodge Rest Home confidential.
Assume responsibility and accountability for your work.
Actively participate as a team member.
Treat Residents with dignity and respect.
Work honestly and loyally in the interest of your employer.
Understand and follow house rules.

Background experience in cooking is preferred, or a willingness to learn. Candidates must be available to attend training, possess good written and spoken English, and communicate well with others while working in a team. Good availability during the week and weekend to take additional shifts as necessary is required. A friendly and conscientious attitude with attention to detail is essential.
