Court Registry Officer – Fixed Term x2 (5 months), Full time, Wellington High Court This is a great chance for you to be part of the team at the High Court in Wellington. Te Haeata/The Opportunity We have two fixed term vacancies in the Civil team, both are for a period of 5 months. In this role as a Court Registry Officer, you will work with a team responsible for management of Civil case files. This role is suitable for someone who is adaptable, excellent at multi-tasking and isn't daunted by the court environment. Your main responsibilities include: Court taking – ensuring the court proceedings run smoothly by preparing the court space, managing AVL attendance, and thinking on your feet to trouble-shoot. Case management - managing a high volume of Civil cases, including maintaining both physical and electronic records, corresponding with counsel and interacting with Judges. Receiving and processing of documents – ensuring documents filed are processed with efficiency and accuracy. To be successful, you will need to be: Detail orientated and observant – the court has many different processes and case information needs to be accurate; Self-aware – you understand our customers and will be confident working across a range of situations; Multi-task – you understand that some of our processes are repetitive, but you will be able to manage conflicting priorities and move from one task to another quickly; Willing to learn – legislation and processes in the courts is always changing and you will be able to adapt and respond to feedback. Resilience – there are times when working in the courts, you will be working on sensitive cases and at high volume. 'General jurisdiction' means there are no limits on the cases the High Court can hear, either in terms of the kind of criminal offences it can hear or the amount of money being claimed in a civil case. The High Court is the highest court in New Zealand that is able to hear cases at 'first instance', before any appeals. This means that decisions of the High Court are binding on all lower courts until overruled by the Court of Appeal or Supreme Court. The High Court also hears appeals from a number of other courts and tribunals, such as the District Court and Family Court. Utu a-tau/Salary The remuneration band for this role is $58,729 to $80,794– while the appointing salary will be based on skills and experience, we are willing to pay higher in the band to attract strong candidates into this role.
