NZ Ministry of Justice – Auckland, North Island
The Employment Court is looking for a Court Registry Officer in our Auckland office for a fixed term of 12 months starting on 13 January 2025. The fixed term is to fill in the role of court registry officers seconded to other positions.
In this role you will work with a team responsible for the successful operation of the Court. You will be coming into a fast-changing environment that will require a high level of agility and resiliency.
The tasks include but are not limited to:
Case management and customer service: You will be responsible for managing Court cases from filing to disposition which includes:
Receiving and processing documents
Providing excellent and highly organised case management processes to ensure cases are heard in a timely and effortless manner
Liaising with the legal profession and parties regarding steps in the proceedings
Providing up to date information to Judges and parties of the status of the cases
Ensuring case files and electronic case management system are in order and up-to-date
Completing actions required following hearings (including proof-reading of the judgments).
Court taking: You will be responsible for facilitating the running of the Court hearings which includes:
Introducing Judges (in English and Te Reo Maori)
Working closely with the Judges in the Courtroom and Chambers
Working closely with hearing participants, counsel, and parties
General administration of the Court
You may also be required to travel as part of this role.
Scheduling: You will be responsible for planning the events for the cases, which includes:
Identifying and planning steps in the proceedings towards hearings
Liaising with the Judges and the parties to ensure preparedness for the events
Office administration:
Support the team with general office administration
Tertiary qualification in law or relevant work experience is an advantage. You will have strong interpersonal skills that will support your work with the Judges, but also be capable of dealing with the legal profession and self-represented parties. An ability to communicate with people from diverse backgrounds is essential. Well-developed written and oral communication skills are a prerequisite. A full driving license and ability to travel is desirable.

Detail oriented and observant: the court has many different processes and case information needs to be accurate
Self-aware: our participants are unique, and you will be confident working, both individually and as a team, across a range of situations
Multi-tasking: some of our processes are repetitive, but you'll be able to manage conflicting priorities and move from one task to another quickly
Willing to learn: legislation and processes in the courts are always changing and you will be able to adapt and maintain knowledge capital
Resilient: there are times when working in the courts, you will be working on sensitive cases and sometimes at high volume

The remuneration band for this role is $58,729 to $80,794 – while the appointing salary will be based on skills and experience, we are willing to pay higher in the band to attract strong candidates into this role.
