About the role
Reporting directly to the Supervisor Testing, the position of Control and Protection Technician carries out the testing and commissioning of new and existing equipment, fault finding and repair. This role may require travel outside the Canterbury region and may be required to be on regular rostered standby.
Perform final inspections and livening of both new and pre-existing equipment, which encompasses:
Testing and commissioning of Substation Electrical Equipment (PT's, CT'S, CB's etc.).
Protection testing of pilot wire differential relays.
Protection testing and commissioning of Ring Main Units.
Testing and commissioning multi-feeder protection relays.
Regulators testing and commissioning.
Testing and commissioning line circuit breakers and controllers.
Assist and take responsibility in the commissioning of zone substation protection schemes, including but not limited to Arc Flash, Transformer Protection, Feeder Protection, Line Protection, Bus Zone Protection, and their corresponding equipment.
Validate the operability of both new and pre-existing equipment.
Keep customers and fellow workers informed of the status of the tasks being undertaken.
Provide regular updates on job progress to the project manager and supervisor.
Conduct maintenance on Zone Substation protection systems.
Compose and review Inspection Test Plans (ITPs) for the tasks performed.
This role is based in the Christchurch Office.
Skills /Experience
Essential
Diploma or NZCE Electrical (or equivalent)
Registered electrician with current practicing licence
At least 3-5 years' experience in protection maintenance testing and commissioning
Relevant network operating certificates and competencies
Current driver's licence
Computer and technology literate
Test and commission protection relays, substation equipment, and protection relays using Omicron devices.
