Through integration and collaboration, we're building a health system underpinned by partnership, equity, sustainability, whanau-centred care, and excellence.About the roleThe Southland Hospital Eye Department provides ophthalmology services to all of Southland, so we require a dynamic, hardworking individual with excellent time management skills to become an integral part of our close-knit team. We are seeking an Ophthalmologist who knows the New Zealand health system intricately and understands the constraints we face within ophthalmology. We welcome applications from a forward-thinking, innovative ophthalmologist who loves challenges and working in a busy department. This role is primarily based in Invercargill. You will be expected to participate in the on-call roster, routine ophthalmology clinics, and theatre. You will also need to be flexible with your scheduling. You must have completed your specialist training and be eligible or already hold vocational registration with the New Zealand Medical Council.Minimum RequirementsEligibility for vocational registration with the Medical Council of New ZealandFRANZCO or equivalent board certification (American board of Ophthalmology, FRCSC, FRCOphth)Excellent communication and time management skillsYou will also need:Competency with te ao Maori, tikanga, and te reo Maori or a commitment to starting your journey and taking ownership of your learning and growthExperience in projects/initiatives which give effect to Te Tiriti principles and frameworks, and the application of Matauranga Maori and Kaupapa Maori approaches, particularly as they apply in healthcare settings.Working for Health New ZealandHealth New Zealand - Te Whatu Ora is 'the weaving of wellness'.
