Whangarei Hospital is seeking a Consultant Obstetrician and Gynaecologist to join our team. This is a new full-time (1.0FTE) position joining a team of 7 full-time and 1 part-time consultants. Te Whatu Ora – Te Tai Tokerau provides public health services across the Northland region, from north of Auckland to Cape Reinga, serving a growing population of more than 190,000. Most secondary services are based at Whangarei Hospital, supported by three rural hospitals in Kaitaia, the Bay of Islands, and Dargaville. Our department offers a full range of general Obstetrics and Gynaecology services with links to the Auckland district for Gynaecological Oncology, Maternal-Fetal Medicine, Tertiary Neonatal Care, and Tertiary Fertility. Each year, there are more than 2000 births in primary and secondary facilities in Northland. As a Consultant Obstetrician and Gynaecologist, you will be based at Whangarei Hospital, with visiting services across our three rural hospitals. You will be part of a 1:8 roster covering acute Obstetrics and Gynaecology. You will work alongside a team of House Officers and 1-2 advanced trainees, and you will be highly involved in all acute cases, providing direct hands-on patient care. Every day, you will be motivated and driven to work in the public health sector, bringing a 'can do' positive attitude. In return, we can provide a range of hands-on experience in general Obstetrics and Gynaecology, as well as opportunities to develop special interests. Our close-knit department maintains strong collegial relationships, offering plenty of teaching and learning opportunities. Many of our House Officers complete the O&G Diploma, and some join the O&G registrar training programme. We also teach 5th and 6th year medical students from the University of Auckland. Apart from joining a growing service, you will also live in a beautiful part of New Zealand, known as the "winterless north."
